Upon stepping into the Shangri-La, Toronto you will immediately feel a zen like presence. Enchanting Eastern influences adorn this chic and inviting space. It’s a great thing that Essence of Shangri-La is available for purchase at the hotel reception desk – we personally loved the fragrance so much that we took it home with us!

Polished, gracious staff are courteous, attentive and knowledgeable, as the Shangri-La houses a collection of 68 premium globally sourced teas including a few exclusive blends. Canadian Fashion Designer, Sonny Fong is the creative genius behind the absolutely gorgeous, fresh and modern Lobby Lounge Wear Collection. Luxurious Asian prints drape and embody the staff, enhancing the ultra lux hotel vibe.

The MixMatch Ladies were in for a special treat as Chef Andrea Ferrero (Executive Chef of Shangri-La Tokyo) joined the talented Bosk team from May 8 – 12th. His sweet and savoury creations are as delicious as they are beautiful. A glass of bubbly accompanies high tea; though a vast collection of wines, cocktails and spirits is also available.

We had an amazing experience and definitely will be back. Undoubtedly a #MMMFave. We highly recommend you check it out. Everyone needs to experience this urban oasis.

A Global, Flavourful Adventure At Awai

The MixMatch Ladies found themselves in plant based heaven at Awai, a definite gem in the heart of Bloor West Village. This hot spot boasts a wood-fire oven, high ceilings, beautiful décor, candlelight and hands down the best plant based food we’ve ever had. Our taste buds definitely were taken awai on an amazing culinary adventure.

An eclectic menu features delicious global flavours with unique spice blends. Anything ordered straight off the menu is a definite win, although Restauranteur, Chef Nathan Isberg has been known to forgo the menu altogether and create custom dishes. We definitely propose you go this route as you will not be disappointed.

Savoury dishes are artfully crafted and accompanied by perfect wine pairings, served up by knowledgeable and attentive staff. Gratuity is not expected but with such great service, it’s impossible not to want to show appreciation. We left in awe and highly recommend you discover Awai for yourself… everybody deserves a night of enchantment and great food!

Toronto’s getting a vegan Oktoberfest this year

Instead of bratwurst, you can munch lettuce wraps and cauliflower buffalo wings at Toronto’s newest Oktoberfest event. Why? Because this one is 100 per cent vegan — prost to that!

Toronto’s Vegan Oktoberfest is happening on Saturday, October 22 at Nest, the nightclub on College, just east of Bathurst.

The event, hosted by Veg Heads and MixMatch Marketing Inc., isn’t just about celebrating Bavarian culture, beer and vegan delicacies; it’s also a fundraiser for the Toronto Vegetarian Food Bank. Tickets are on sale now for $15, but they go up in price on October 1.

Along with beer, music by DJ Gudrun and a photo booth, there will be plenty of vegan food vendors on site, including big names like Doug McNish. He’ll serve sausages and salad. And yes, there will also be soft pretzels available thanks to Dolled up Dessert because what’s Oktoberfest without a good sausage and pretzel?

Mac’n Cheese Festival

Last year around this time: the internet was abuzz with great reviews and friends raved about the fabulous time they had at the Mac’n Cheese Festival.
Wait a minute, Mac’n Cheese what? Where was this?  How come we didn’t know about it? Next year will be different, we promised as we swiftly entered reminders into our calendars to keep a close look out for this fabulous event.

June 3 – 5, 2016 was booked and this year was different! The typically health conscious, calorie counting, salad seeking MixMatch Ladies joined forces with thousands of foodies on a delicious adventure. A taste of heaven at the Mac’n Cheese Festival held at Ontario Place.

Suddenly we were surrounded by oooey, gooey goodness created by some of Toronto’s best and brightest chefs. With so many delectable dishes in close range, what’s a girl to do? Sample EVERTHING of course! Luckily, the MixMatch Ladies had been saving room in their tummies all week, we were prepared. We ate, then ate some more, and some more. You get the picture.

The best part is that you don’t have to wait for next year’s festival to indulge in our absolute favorites of the festival.
The truffle mac’n cheese created by the chefs of Prohibition Gastro House, was to die for. It left us craving more and more. We were so happy to hear that this dish is a staple on their menu. Prohibition, we have a feeling we will be seeing you very soon. Be sure to check them out at 696 Queen St. East, Toronto!

Dessert? Yes, please!
We have fallen in love with the perfect palette cleanser and summery dessert – The Pop Stand Ice Pops!  A gourmet, all natural treat popping up at farmer’s markets, events and fairs all across the city, when we spot their adorable cart we race to get our hands on one. So coveted, it’s not uncommon to sell out of their most popular flavors. The Blueberry Lime & Mint is a must try. Was it worth the wait? Definitely!
Family friendly and fun with over 75 food, drink and artisanal vendors. Who doesn’t love craft beer, carnival games, rides and live entertainment all set on a warm summer’s night along the beach? Free admission and shuttle buses are always a bonus too!

Kings of the Sliders

Chef Life

It’s official, the MixMatch Ladies have crowned the Chef Life Chefs the “Kings of the Sliders.”

We were fortunate enough to run into this super charismatic trio of amazing chefs not once but twice! Initially, a few weeks back at Midnight Market and just this past weekend at The Field of Dreams Market in support of the Jays Care Foundation. The Cheflife Chefs were serving up delicious, mouth watering, mini sliders, a definite crowd favourite. How perfect!

It’s no secret, the MixMatch Ladies love to eat and definitely have a soft spot for burgers! Natural angus beef jam-packed with smoked bacon, cheddar cheese and crispy onion strings topped with their own very special Showtime sauce. All on a lightly toasted baby bun. We simply could not resist! It was melt in your mouth deliciousness!

A really great group of guys, so hospitable and so much fun. You can catch them lighting up festivals across the GTA and beyond or at their awesome restaurant, Showtime Bistro 2761 Markham Rd. Toronto
