Fashion Magic….. TOM* | TWFW Highlights SS18

A whole lot of fashion magic happened over the past two weeks as some of Canada’s best designers launched their SS18 collections on Canada’s longest runway on Canada’s longest street. TOM* and TWF seamlessly settled into their new home and famous address, 1 Yonge Street, the fabulous Toronto Star building.

MixMatch Marketing had the privilege to talk a little bit with Jeff Rustia, the Founder and Executive Director of TOM* and TWF. He is as kind as he is stylish and we all know Jeff has some serious style. A fashion icon with a heart of gold, Jeff has raised over $75K for Easter Seals Canada in memory of his inspiration, his late son Kohl. Kohl’s legacy lives on through the Kohl Hope Foundation, helping children with disabilities. #Fashion4Hope

Shelli Oh ‘Les Flaneurs’

Our schedule didn’t permit us to attend most of TOM* but we simply could not miss Shelli Oh’s ‘Les Flaneurs’  SS18 Menswear collection and loved every second. Shelli’s attention to detail leaves every piece looking lux and highly covetable. Clad in stripes, jacquard, prints and check, impeccably dressed gents graced the runway with style and refinement.

Caroline Neron ‘A Bohemian Spirit’

We were fortunate to preview most of the SS18 collections at TWFW. Fashionistas and celebrities lined the runway ready for a show, and show is what they got at Caroline Neron. The Montreal based jewelry designer and actress captured the audience’s full attention with a beautiful acrobatic yoga performance. ‘Glamour with A Bohemian Spirit’ adds that special “je ne sais quoi” to any look. Celebrating uniqueness, passion and spirit.

Wallo ‘Stand Up’

Quebec designers are taking the world by storm and at the forefront of it all was the Wallo ‘Stand Up’ collection. Wallo ruled the runway! An army of elegantly suited men and women graced the runway in stunning prints of flowing stretch silk and silk chiffon, reminiscent of an ethereal eastern dream…. art in motion.

Both the men’s and women’s lines are inspired by the pictorial and digital artwork of Marie-Andre and celebrate the strength of feminine expression. All pieces are printed on high quality silk using only durable water-based inks.

Marie-Andre Wallot, artist and designer is just as beautiful, balanced and charming as her collection. Her passion for art is immediately apparent as she has immaculate personal style, even amidst the busy hustle and bustle of backstage. Her warm, expressive energy and vividly colored kimono act as a magnet attracting a line of eager fashion enthusiasts, all waiting for their moment with Marie-Andre (us included). She and Jean-Pierre Simard, General Manager, took the time to speak and connect with everyone and were both a complete delight.

Wallo is also featured in a collaboration and fusion of fashion and interior design. The KHL Canadian Designer Living Chair Project exhibit features nine custom made chairs inspired by the Canadian Rockies, honoring Canada’s 150th birthday and was on display for lucky fashion week attendees.

Pascal Labelle ‘United by our Differences’

Pascal Labelle is a Montreal based designer with a definite rock n’ roll flair. The United by our Differences collection rocked the runway in edgy, ready to wear, high end pieces. Sparkles, fur trims, leather and lace detailed many of the must-have pieces. Models, Paul Mason and Eve  Salvail worked the runway with high energy and mass appeal.

Lesley Hampton ‘Sticks and Stones’ Collection – Diversity is our strength

Lesley Hampton is a First Nations fashion designer based in Toronto. Her designs are elegant, beautifully constructed, classy and so is her message. Lesley celebrates diversity, encourages pushing boundaries and features all skin colours and body types. A parade of beautiful women of all shapes, sizes and ethnicities made their way down the runway. A breath of fresh air.

Featuring celebrity guest Adrianne Haslet, Boston Marathon survivor, model, dancer, blade runner, and global advocate for amputee rights. There isn’t anything she can’t do, a gorgeous inspiration inside and out.

Lesley also was the presenting designer in the Women’s Fashion 4Hope charity show. Featuring Canadian celebrities, raising money for Easter Seals Canada through the Kohl Hope Foundation. Is it even possible to love her any more than we already do!?!

Claire Lemaitre-Auger

Montreal designer Claire Lemaitre-Auger enchanted all with her signature designs, fresh, fanciful and full of feminine charm. Feminine pieces straight from a modern fairy-tale left show goers captivated in charm and whimsy. Claire is a predominantly self-taught designer and influenced by both urban and rural life which really gives her designs a unique edge. We are already excited for her next show!

Hendrixroe ‘Florescent Adolescence’

Sold out, standing room only! Hendixroe is on a whole other level! Designer/Creative Director, Jordin Erin Mckay (JEM), is completely talented and charming. Everything about her exudes art.  Her Florescent Adolescence SS18 collection was one of the most anticipated show and rightly so. Barbie Girl was one of the opening songs, Kardinal Official walked the runway and the audience was up off their chairs in dance. Vivid prints, florals, furs and fringe created a cultivated rock chic theme, adored by celebrities, the fashion, film and music industries alike. JEM also has amazing music taste – everyone wants her runway show playlist!

Stephan Caras ‘Eden’

Romance was in the air! It was showstopper after showstopper at Stephan Caras ‘Eden’  as intricately crafted haute couture pieces beautified the runway. Soft and feminine, delicate and strong. Ruffles, sheer florals and lace! It’s no secret nor surprise that Stephan Caras is on everyone’s favourites list, frequently seen on celebrities, television and entertainment shows around the world. This is the stuff fashion dreams are made of.

150 Years of Canadian Fashion Tribute

Happy Birthday Canada! Designers contributed to an epic red and white tribute celebrating Canada’s rich fashion history in true haute couture form. This show brought to life and magnified how lucky we are to live in such a diverse, talented and unique mecca for design and opportunity.
